DELOS (DILOS)
By unanimous consent, Delos (Dilos) Island is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Greece and a must to visit while vacationing on Mykonos (Myconos, Mikonos) Island. According to Greek mythology, it was the birthplace of the Olympian gods Artemis and Apollo and was a significant ancient religious center of the Aegean Sea region. The whole island is virtually one ancient site, with many well-preserved monuments that are heavily guarded against theft. Overnight stays on Delos are prohibited and only licensed tour boats are allowed to transport visitors to the island. The Archeological Museum of Delos contains an assortment of statues, mosaics, friezes, pottery, figurines, jewelry and small objet dart that date back to prehistoric times.
Other nearby Mykonos small islets to visit are Prasonissia, Ktapodia, Marmaronissi, Dragonissi and Agios Georgios.
